What did you do this New Year's Eve?
Drinks with friends? Stuck in work? Maybe you took a trip to the dogs?
If you were lucky enough to enjoy a fun night out at the track, you might have noticed that the trainers, owners and employees were even happier than usual. That's because it was announced last week that starting on Friday January 1st there will be a €1m increase in prize money at dog racing meetings in 2016.
That is a 25% increase on the current prize-pot. The Irish Greyhound Board chairman Phil Meaney also announced that by mid-January plans will be unveiled to support breeding, syndication and a number of other measures designed to boost dog racing in Ireland even further.
So when you are deciding where to book that office party in 2016, you will have an even greater incentive to take a trip to the dogs.
